The FRCR Part 1 Exam is the initial stage of the FRCR qualification, focusing on foundational knowledge in radiology. Exam Requirements
To be eligible for the FRCR Part 1 exam, candidates must hold a recognized medical degree and should have completed at least 12 months of postgraduate medical experience. This requirement ensures that they acquire the necessary foundational clinical exposure before attempting the exam.
Exam Format
Anatomy:
- Multiple-choice questions with a free-text answer box for each question.
- Each question shows a radiological image (X-ray, CT, MRI, US, Nuclear Medicine)
- Arrows or markers point to structures
- Candidate writes the exact anatomical term (short written answer format)
- All questions carry equal marks
Physics:
- Multiple choice questions consisting of a stem and five statements, where the candidates can choose the right option (True or False).
- Topics include Radiation Production, Radiation Protection, Imaging Equipment (X-Ray, CT, MRI, US, Nuclear Medicine), Image Quality, and Safety.
- All questions carry equal marks
Key points:
- Both papers are computer-based exams.
- The pass mark varies each year, but it’s usually around 70-75%.
- There is no negative marking, so attempting all questions is advisable.
