Five stations assessing clinical skills by two examiners in each station.

Examiners conduct calibration by reviewing patients across all five stations, ensuring consistent criteria when awarding satisfactory (2), borderline (1), or unsatisfactory (0) marks for performance.

PACES Stations

In MRCP(UK) PACES, candidates are tested on seven key clinical skills that reflect real-world practice. These include carrying out a proper physical examination, spotting and describing important clinical signs, and showing clear, empathetic communication. Candidates must also provide a safe differential diagnosis, apply strong clinical judgement, respond to patients’ concerns, and always protect patient welfare. Together, these skills show examiners that the candidate is ready to move forward in specialist training
